Home UpShimla 6, Railway

The Simla Railway was never a financial success, and it's lost money ever since the government took it over in 1906. Still runs, though.

There are many tunnels along the narrow-gauge route. The smoke here isn't coming from an engine, though; it's from the women by the umbrella, who are roasting ears of corn.

Oops, here comes the train.

You could almost jump on. In fact, maybe you could.

It's holding up traffic.

Farther on, at Kandaghat, the track passes over a substantial bridge.

Hours later, it rolls into Shimla.

Entering the station.
