Home UpLuang Prabang Palace Grounds

Luang Prabang is the former capital of Laos. It fronts the Mekong, and so does the old Royal Palace, which is really not so old. Built between 1904 and 1909, it's now a museum, with the palace furnishings approximately intact.

From the main gate.

Off to the right of the gate lies a temple. From this angle, it looks timeless.

It's new, however, and the blue awning provides shelter for a painter at work on the bannister dragons.

The master's touch.

Different angle.

Awaiting paint.

Columns awaiting gold.

At the south side of the palace grounds, a shelter protects immense royal canoes.

Extraordinary.
