Home UpBustan

A road continues east from Muscat along a forbidding coast to the small town of Al Bustan.

Typical countryside, although that probably stretches the meaning of the word.

From about the same spot but this time looking to the Gulf of Oman and coastal Al Bustan.

Closer in.

It's not just Sultan Qaboos who likes green. The same principle motivates Quebeckers to keep their homes toasty warm in winter.

A windlass to haul boats ashore. Rollers are used to get them back to the water.

Ashore.

Beach and headland.

Beachside.

More modest housing.

However limited, a garden.

A lane without a speck of litter. Note the air conditioners and/or swamp coolers.

Kids coming home from school.

The same stretch of coast viewed from a nearby hotel.

The hotel's approach road has a traffic circle that ranks high on the list of Omani follies.

That's real water.

Haramel, an intermediate hamlet between Muscat and Bustan.

Private estate at Haramel.

And this is March!
