Jenin is the northernmost town on the West Bank, a surprisingly bustling place close to the most fertile valleys on the West Bank.

The city center is jammed.

Part of the problem is simply that pedestrians don't yield.

The sign reads "Haifa Street," but beyond it there's a squat obelisk with—of all things—an airplane propeller. Any ideas?

German aviators fought and died here in the First World War. They had an airfield nearby.
